Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment involves the removal of inflamed, infected or dead dental tissue, ‘pulp’, inside the tooth. When the pulp is inflamed or infected, it can lead to a fair amount of pain and discomfort to the tooth and adjacent tissues. Infected teeth will need either a root canal treatment to save the tooth or an extraction.

Root canal treatment has a greater than 90% 10 year success rate. However, not all treatments are successful initially as different people have different healing responses and infections can respond differently. The tooth can also become reinfected at a later date.
All dentists are trained to carry out root canal treatments but we may refer you to an endodontist (root canal specialists) for treatment in some cases.
